ABOUT ME

Having completed my fourth year Honours degree in psychology with Monash University, I am launching The Mindset Guru counselling service to utilise my vast corporate and personal experience, and looking to share significant learnings from across my life and extensive time in academia and research, to enhance the lives of others. Male-female, gay-straight, young-old, black or white - people often suffer in silence, or get stuck in cycles of dysfunctional thinking patters and behaviour - working with you, I will build upon your strengths, help you identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviours. My job is to champion your journey, whether that is one of healing, exploring new endeavours or overcoming struggles - enabling you to thrive in your personal life, the workplace, at school and at home - that is is my mission.

After spending several years travelling, studying and living in London, I now base myself between Sydney and Melbourne, Australia. Professionally speaking, I began my career in hospitality, whilst studying my first degree in Commerce, before moving on to study and work in law (in London). After six incredible years abroad, I relocated back to Australia with work, where I identified a need to help people work through the issues they were facing, both at work and in their personal lives. Most of the issues I identified seemed to centre around the way people think and feel about their issues, meaning people were contributing to their own hurt, and so, I decided to pursue a career in psychology. I have extensively utilised my experience to mentor and coach young professionals within my industry.

My Honours thesis was based in the Health Psychology space, and examined Body Image and the relationship between social media literacy, photo editing, health literacy and fitness level. The prevalence of social media in our everyday lives has demonstrated many new and emerging influences that seem to be affecting our wellbeing - and can be the key to alleviating many stressors in our everyday lives.

More about me

Outside of counselling, I also work in the legal field at a national Australian law firm, Johnson Winter Slattery. Prior to this I worked at top tier Australian and international law firms including Allens Linklaters (Aus) and Hogan Lovells (Globally and in Sydney & Perth). I support the entire business, senior partners and lawyers with winning work, maintaining client relationships, and developing business through various marketing and communications channels.

From a personal perspective, I grew up in the east of Melbourne in an Australian-Italian household, with my mother, father and two older siblings. I lost my father to cancer at the age of 10, so was raised mostly by my mother, auntie and myself(!). I lost all grandparents by the age of 16 leaving me with a fairly strong grasp of the affects of bereavement across the lifespan. I was always fairly studious, with a strong interest in learning, even though my grades throughout high school didnโ€™t always reflect this. I began to excel in social subjects including business, legal studies, psychology, history and geography - before more recently (whilst studying psychology) realising that I have mild ADHD traits - perhaps explaining the mixed school results.

My study efforts and grades improved exponentially as I entered tertiary education, mostly because I found that things become much more interestING, when you are interestED - and not confuddled by the Shakespearian dialect or Pythagorean theorem.

At University, my top grade for Leadership & Management earned me an Achievement of Academic Excellence. Further excelling and discovering a penchant for business law - led me to pursue a post graduate law degree at the College of Law (now the University of Law) in London, 2011. The following year, I got a boyfriend and came out to my friends and family. Exploring my identity whilst discovering the world has afforded me the luxury of developing many meaningful and colourful relationships - including a deep appreciation for cultural adversity and diversity. Outside of Australia, I have worked across the globe, including in The United States, UK, Continental Europe and Asia - and travelled recreationally much wider.

My relationships - romantic, professional and personal - have seen me deal with many issues facing the LGBTQIA+ community including relationship and family breakdown, coming out, love, loss, HIV, sexual health, mental health, body image, physical and emotional violence/manipulation and many more. Whilst many of these issues are not unique to the queer community, there is strong evidence suggesting people identifying outside of cis-gender heteronormativity are more susceptible to face hardships as a result. My involvement in leading and participating in workplace pride networks further epitomises the work that still needs to be done to ensure representation exists within all workplaces - and that queer identifying people flourish as their full authentic selves.

Whilst I have committed to a lifetime of learning and personal growth, I also thrive in conversations about music and festivals (pop, rock & country, mostly), fashion and food. I am a keen baker, home chef, and fitness enthusiast - having participated in half-marathons, fun runs and an avid participant in Reformer Pilates.
